'Bits & Pieces'
The term 'Honeymoon' originated from the custom of drinking mead for one month after the wedding. Mead was a wine made from honey,considered an aphrodisiac, and in lunar terms a moon is a month.
A very similar version to our modern wedding vows was used by Anglo Saxon couples as long ago as 800AD. A bride was taken by her husband 'For fairer or fouler, For better or worse, For richer or poorer' whilst she promised to be'Debonair and buxom in bed and at board' At the time debonair was taken to mean good-humoured, and to be buxom was taken to mean pliant and yielding.
Do you know what the 'Dunmow Flitch' was? The Dunmow Flitch was a side of bacon given to couple who could demonstrate that they had not said or thought a harsh word against their partner within a year and a day after their wedding day. Giving a 'Dunmow Flitch' was an old custom in the village of Dunmow in Essex.
A final thought: What do you book first? A church can perform several marriage ceremonies in one day, but most reception venues can only cater for one reception.
