How did we start?
It is a number of years since we started our hobby with old cars when we bought our first vintage car. That car was an Austin Ten Open tourer which we used for weddings for many years before selling it for something bigger.
We didn't intend doing weddings when we bought our first car, it was going to be just a hobby, but friends asked us to do a wedding and before we knew it we were having enquiries from all over Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, and, like Topsy, we 'just growed'. .
As well as being our livelihood , old cars are still our hobby, however, and we travel all over the UK with them as well as on the continent. In the last few years we have been to Jersey four times, to Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, and to Belgium twice, we have also toured the highlands of Scotland twice. In 2006 we travelled to the Alsace region of France as well as visiting Germany and Luxembourg. So what does that tell you about our cars? Yes, that they are very reliable. We wouldn't make such long trips if we didn't have confidence in their reliability, and at the end of the day, isn't that what you want for your wedding? A car which is not going to let you down on the most important day of your life? That is why you should come to BMC Weddings for your wedding car.
Additions to the Fleet
We have recently acquired a Rolls-Royce 20hp Landaulette in burgundy to add to our fleet of pre-war Rolls-Royces. With four Rolls-Royces, and a number of pre-war Austins, we have probably got the biggest collection of specialist vintage wedding cars in the area.
Oldest surviving Phantom 111
The Rolls Royce Phantom 111 which was built in Derby did not have a large production run before the second world war stopped manufacture as Rolls Royce moved in a big way into the production of aircraft engines for which they are still famous. There were a total of 727 Phantom 111's made. We own the second Phantom 111 which was made and it is, as far as we know (having checked with the RREC) the oldest known survivor. We also have two more matching Phantom 111's.
Guinness World Record
In May 2000 two of our prewar Rolls Royces were part of the World Record attempt for the longest unbroken line of one-marque vehicles on the public highway. We travelled to Chester for the attempt, and, along with many other Rolls Royce owners, we now have a certificate for the Guinness World Record of 420 vehicles.
Two weddings - one car
On 4th September 2000 we were featured on every Central Television news bulletin after one of our Rolls Royce Phantom 111's was traced by a bride's parents for their daughter's wedding, nothing unusual in that you may think, but the parents had used the same car for their wedding nearly a quarter of a century earlier!
Future plans for our web site
In the future we are hoping to launch a special section for features about weddings, historical info on wedding traditions, wedding and engagement announcements, and a forum, so do keep your eyes peeled, and bookmark our site for future visits. In the meantime, do check out what we can offer from the links on the left hand side of the page. Finally, best wishes to all our visitors.
